Creativity is in everybody, even you, everyday

November 3, 2009

Some people say they are not artistic or creative at all.

You are creative every day, even if you don’t know that you are. When you make plans for the future, write letters, give speeches, everything you do really, in your daily life, takes creativity. Even if it’s only deciding what to have for dinner, what to wear or where to go when you feel like going out. Even what to say to somebody.

Some of us are lucky enough to see that our job is creative, like my friend the house remodeler. His favorite part is when he gets to make the plans, then he watches his ideas become physical reality. And the people who build the house too, can look at it, and say “I helped make that house.’ My friend Carol makes the perfect chocolate cookie and Buddy told us a cliff-hanging story about rock climbing. They are all creating something.

Even if you don’t think of your daily life, or job, as normally creative—
For example, my bookkeeper friend Janis is taking small abstract things—numbers—and making meaningful patterns with them – how much money you made and how much taxes you owe.

She may not believe that it is creative – but I do. Because my creativity goes in other directions, so what she does is amazing to me.

There’s creativity at work, and also at play.

If you meet with friends to relax, if you go to a movie, you have to be creative just to respond to what’s happening and to express yourself. And if you actually play a game—like softball in the park, or cards, like rummy or bridge, you recognize creativity even more easily and how revitalizing and energizing it is.

A wonderful way to put creativity in perspective! :)

    How are you??
I started a Theatre & Spanish degree a couple of months ago, and since the language course isn’t very good I’ve started a Spanish blog to improve my writing skills.
It has little artistic value, but I thought it might amuse you anyway (as I write about more or less anything that pops into my head, from the perspective of a slightly exagerrated version of… Me!):

Take care, create & have fun!
